The Shannon Stock Farm, owned by the Farr family of Corral de Tierra, California, has donated to Clear Rounds for Clean Water a 10 year old Dutch Warmblood mare. Arctic Spark is for sale or lease and can be seen at the Texas Rose Horse Park in Tyler, Texas. The proceeds of the sale will help the day-to-day administrative costs of CRforCW. When I was at the World Water Summit in New Orleans last week I was privileged to meet and listen to Greg Allgood who is the Director of Proctor & Gamble’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water program. Charles McKeever asked me last week, “what can one person do?” This is a great opportunity for “one person” to really help! Look for the Proctor & Gamble coupons in this Sunday’s June 5, 2011 paper where you will find a special edition of the P&G GIVE HEALTH brandSAVER coupon booklet distributed in newspapers across the country, with discounts for P&G products. For each brandSAVER coupon redeemed from this booklet, one day of clean drinking water will be donated to people in developing countries through CSDW. Since 2004, CSDW has provided more than three billion liters of clean drinking water by distributing PUR packets – an innovation created by P&G and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control that use some of the same ingredients as municipal water systems to remove pollutants from contaminated water. The P&G uncapped donation ($0.02 per coupon redeemed) will be based on the number of coupons redeemed beginning June 5. Clear Rounds for Clean Water Board member Tena Dunaway Farr’s father passed away last Friday in Aspen, Colorado. The Farr family, Tena and her two sons, Justin and Mark, along with Tena’s mother, Jane Brown Dunaway, are intricately involved with CRforCW. They have been strong supporters & sponsors providing sound encouragement and assistance since the beginning; seeing several of our water projects go from the stages of “proposed plans” to “boots on the ground” in Uganda, Honduras and Southern India. In fact just recently the Farr family donated a Dutch Warm Blood mare to CRforCW with the proceeds of her sale going to the general fund. Take a moment to read the article from the Aspen Times about Tena’s father, a true life adventurer, ski and climbing pioneer and social activist. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Farr family as they mourn the loss of their father and grandfather.

It’s the People, not the Program!

Sometimes you meet the most incredible people, just when you need to! A week ago Saturday in a Container Store I met a young woman named Jennifer who is leaving this Wednesday for Africa. She and her husband are donating some of their life together to implement water projects and educate villagers teaching sanitation procedures. They are also spending time in several orphanages. They are part of a volunteer group from the Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas, headed to Yei Sudan, Kenya and Uganda. Talking with Jennifer you cannot help but be caught up in her tremendous enthusiasm and dedication towards helping other. There is a global water crisis, it is huge and immediate. If you are a follower of CRforCW than you know this to be true and we, in a very small way, are trying to help. Every so often the world seems too big, the terrible living conditions of 1/6 of the population too overwhelming, the crisis just too critical for individual efforts to effect any change at all. Then you happen to meet a Jennifer and you know you can make a difference, even if it’s just one person at a time. However, I have been fortunate enough to meet lots of Jennifers, and there are lots of organizations like CRforCW, so every time I get bogged down by the bureaucracy of the “never ending programs”, I remember the people. It’s the people, not the program. The people who have heartbreaking needs, and the people who continually sacrifice of themselves to help – thanks Jennifer.

Sandra Brown Character Name Winner

Last September at the Texas Sport Horse Cup we auctioned the privilege of using the highest bidders name in the next thriller off the presses from New York Times and International Best Selling author Sandra Brown. Following is the email I just received from the winning bidder.

“Wow! I can hardly believe it’s already 2011! I am so incredibly excited that this fall the brand new Sandra Brown book will be coming out and my name will be used as one of the characters! What an opportunity- all thanks to the fantastic silent auction benefiting CRforCW at the Texas Rose Horse Park last September! It really was a great item – I got to correspond with Sandra about the whole thing and she even asked me my preference on which character my name should be for. Too cool! You better believe that everyone will be getting this book for Christmas! And CRforCW, may I suggest you do this again with other authors? This auction item was simply the best and worth every penny to your worthy cause! ”

I will post when the title and the release date of Sandra Brown’s new book is available. Please suggest other authors that would be of interest. All I can do is approach them and see if they are at all willing to offer a character name. All recommendations would be very, very welcome; especially children’s authors.
